“I’ve been gradually scaling up my meditation, which varies from 5 to 20 minutes a day. I’ve been very consistent in doing it every day, but previously was only meditating in the morning.
A few days ago for the first time, I tried meditating before bed, and I meditated today before taking a nap.
I’ve struggled with insomnia for almost 2 decades. My usual way of falling asleep involves taking meds (sometimes prescription, sometimes OTC) and listening to a podcast or music until I eventually drift off to sleep. The last few days and today were the first times I remember sleeping without those aids in years.
Not only did I fall asleep, but I remained asleep. I feel refreshed, energetic, and positive. I honestly find it hard to believe. I would never have expected this result.
Wanted to share this change, especially because I know so many people pursue meditation for help with anxiety and insomnia. In my case it has absolutely been beneficial, but it seems due to a consistent practice and meditating before bed.
Can I expect my sleep to continue improving or is this temporary?
Should I keep meditating before bed?
Thank you!”
Keep meditating before bed.
This way you will build a sleep habit that will last and falling asleep will always be easy for you.
Your sleep will probably keep improving as you progress with your meditation.
There may be occasional times in life that are stressful that impact your sleep but they will be one offs and nothing to worry about.
Enjoy your sleep and enjoy feeling refreshed.
