“I am 42 years old and have never been flexible.
I tried to meditate cross legged on my 42nd birthday.
I succeeded and then realized I had thrown out my back so badly I could not walk for a day.
I am doing lots of basic stretching exercises. I have a piano bench I could use to meditate at but that whole experience put me off a bit and I am finding it difficult to get started again.
I know lots of people sit in chairs to meditate, and I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to try meditating cross legged again.
I just do count breathing, very simple, and I felt like I was untangling cobwebs in my mind, things would just come up.
I know this is a vague question and I guess I’m looking for encouragement!”
You can meditate in any body position you find comfortable.
The lotus position is commonly associated with meditation, however this position isn’t required to meditate.
The most comfortable body positions to meditate in are lying down or sitting in a reclined chair.
For lying down you can try on your bed or on a yoga mat on the floor.
If you are comfortable and can fully relax all your muscles you can meditate in this position for as long as you want.
