“Like obviously, I know you are meant to sit and think, but is meditation literally just sitting and thinking?
I hear loads of people say they meditate, or recommend developing a mediation technique, but when I ask them they can’t describe to me know how to.
I also hear people speak about meditation giving clarity, which is the main reason I want to learn how to meditate.
I’ve obviously watched videos and read articles but still not clear on how to meditate and what good meditation technique is.
It just confuses me overall, and I want someone to just describe how meditation works, like what are the steps?
Sorry if this sounds ridiculous or stupid! I’m just trying to find out and after watching videos and searching things I’m still confused.”
Meditation can be described as thinking.
At it’s most basic level.
To allow your brain to calm down and focus on thinking the steps are to:
- slow your breathing
- relax your whole body
- reduce sensory activity
Achieving these can involve either sitting or lying down in a calm and quiet place and closing your eyes.
If you are looking for clarity and are new to meditation initially your mind may feel the opposite of clear.
When you first start meditating you allow yourself to think and there may be loads of thoughts to address before you achieve clarity.
Work through your thoughts and resolve them, check them off and move on to the next thought.
As you do this you will feel clearer.
