How do you end your meditation session?

“Curious to know.

There are a lot of techniques that I’ve read about like mindfulness, breath work, and others.

Regardless, I’m curious to know two things.

When should I decide to stop my meditation session?

Is it natural or do you time your session? For me I have been noticing that no matter how deep the meditation is and whatever the technique something makes me snap out of it of it and when I check the time, it is almost always exactly 30 minutes!

When you feel like it is time to stop, do you abruptly stop or is there any method you use to gently ease yourself back into reality?”

Deciding when to stop depends on your schedule.

If you have time to meditate until you naturally feel like ending your meditation this is a great way to meditate.

For many of us there may not be enough time to do this.

Setting a timer that plays a calm sound when it’s time to end your meditation session works well. Examples are bird song or running water sounds.

This way you aren’t abruptly ending your meditation session and can gently ease yourself out of your meditation.

One method to end your meditation that works is 3-2-1 Calmer, Healthier, Clearer. When you are ready to end your meditation session:

  • Take a deep breath in, say 3 whilst breathing out.
  • Take a deep breath in, say 2 whilst breathing out.
  • Take a deep breath in, say 1 whilst breathing out.
  • Take a deep breath in, say “Calmer, Healthier, Clearer”.
  • Open your eyes.
