Beginner meditation question

“Hi!

I am starting my journey into the world of meditation because my mental health has been a bit rough over the last few years.

I am genuinely curious if I am meditating correctly or not, which it seems there really isn’t a right or wrong to this sort of thing but anyway.

I start meditating by focusing my body and getting into a relaxed state, close my eyes, then say ‘breathe in’ as I breathe in and ‘breathe out’ as I breathe out for about 15 minutes in the morning and then 15 minutes at night.

Is that really all there is to meditation to reap the benefits?

My mind really does wander quite a bit which I also know is normal, but I can get it back to my breathe in and breathe out with ease normally.

I just am a little skeptical and want to make sure it really is that easy to meditate and get the benefits of it!

Thank you!”

Focussing on breathing in and out is relaxing.

The real benefits come from giving your mind time and space to think.

Allow your mind to wander.

Pay attention to your thoughts.

Observe your thoughts neutrally as if they were another person’s thoughts.

Allow the unimportant thoughts to flow away and disappear.

Focus on the important thoughts.

Address them and resolve them.

This is how the real benefits of meditation begin.
