“Hello
I’m really new to meditation and to trying meditation, I told myself that I’ll do one more minute every day for a month.
I am currently at 7 days of meditation and I got quite a lot of questions.
Is the posture I am meditating in is important?
Is it better I keep my eyes closed during the meditation?
Should I do specific breathing techniques or should I let my body breath in it’s natural pattern?
And how would you recommend to observe your thoughts?
It’s kind of hard for me to difference a thought from myself.
I’m currently doing a kind of easy lotus posture with my butt higher than my leg so it don’t hurt, with my eyes closed, I tried for a few days to breathe more manually with a break between every inspiration and expiration but I think I prefer when I breathe naturally today and I try to observe my thoughts but it’s hard for me to not think with the voice always in my head.
I’m just curious to hear what tips do you have.
Thank you!”
Great that you’re meditating daily.
Meditate in a posture that allows you to fully relax your whole body.
Many people find meditating lying down or in a reclined chair allows them to fully relax.
Keep your eyes closed, this minimizes distractions and allows you to focus on your thoughts.
Breathe naturally and gently slow your breathing, this will help you relax.
Observe your thoughts neutrally as if you are observing somebody else’s thoughts, allow the unimportant thoughts to flow away and focus on the important thoughts.
Try meditating daily in the morning after waking up and in the evening before sleeping.
This calms your mind for the day and helps with getting a good night’s sleep.
