“As I read books about meditation, watch meditation videos and try different meditation apps I keep encountering vague, abstract, and sometimes mystical descriptions that I can’t translate into concrete behaviour.
It seems like loads of other people are able to hear those descriptions and understand them intuitively but for whatever reason I just don’t understand them.
For me there is a gap that can’t be bridged between these two commands:
Command #1: ‘Inhale for x amount of time, hold for x amount of time, exhale for x amount of time, repeat.’
Command #2: ‘Relax into self-compassion and embrace the present moment.’
Command #1 is specific and clear enough that anyone could follow it immediately with no problems.
Command #2 is so vague that I don’t even know where to even begin to follow it.
There’s nothing actionable in those words!
What am I doing with my body?
What am I doing with my mind?
Any advice?”
Meditation is simple and easy.
When meditating get into a comfortable position where you can fully relax your whole body.
Common ways to meditate are lying down or sitting on a reclined chair.
Slowing your breathing is relaxing.
Allow your mind to be free, allow your thoughts to flow.
You will have loads of thoughts, some unimportant and some important.
Allow the unimportant to flow away and disappear.
Focus on the important thoughts and address them.
There are so many styles of meditation that when researching it is easy to get lost in the vast amount of information about meditation.
Meditate daily and you will learn what works for you.
