“Sometimes when I meditate I find that it seems easier for me when I just focus on the now in general and being present and watching my thoughts come and go.
It’s like I can just focus on what is happening in my mind with a meditative distance.
I find it difficult to be present when concentrating only on the breath, because my mind seems to drift and get lost in thought on it’s own.
Is this okay or should I try to always use the breath as an anchor?”
Yes, allow your thoughts to flow.
You do not need to always focus on your breath.
Slow breathing helps to relax and calm you.
There is more to meditating than just breathing and what you are doing works.
Try looking at what is happening from a different point of view.
Rather than your mind getting lost in thought, your mind is highlighting thoughts that are important to you and thoughts that need your attention.
