“It’s currently 1:00 AM where I am.
I want to get sound sleep but it always takes me a long time to fall asleep.
When I go to bed I am always thinking so much, it feels like my mind won’t switch off.
Can meditation help me calm myself to sleep?”
Meditation can help your sleep.
Let’s look at what happens when you go to bed.
If your mind is active when you lie down to sleep it suggests that your mind isn’t getting any time to think during the day.
Our brains process a huge amount of information every second, over a whole day that’s a lot of information.
Your brain needs time to process that information, find the important information, link it together and make sense of everything.
If your brain is busy all day it doesn’t have time to do this.
The only time that your brain gets is when you finally lie down to go to sleep at the end of the day.
This is why your mind is thinking so much when you try to sleep.
When you meditate daily you create the time and space for your brain to do what it needs to do.
Your mind will then be calm, relaxed and ready to sleep at the end of the day.
