“I’m new to meditating and have been meditating daily for 15 minutes over the last 3 weeks.
It feels amazing during and after, but requires a lot of concentration and mental effort for me to meditate.
When I try to meditate longer (20+ minutes), I get easily distracted and end up feeling mentally exhausted and foggy afterwards.
Does meditation become more effortless the more you practice?
Also, does the ability to maintain longer sessions improve over time?”
Yes, meditation becomes more effortless with practice.
Meditation is like any other skill.
The more that you meditate, the easier it is.
How you meditate is important.
If you need a lot of concentration and effort to meditate there may be some things that you can can change to make meditation easier.
Distractions can be prevented by meditating in a quiet space where you can close the door.
Concentration and mental effort can be made easier by allowing your mind to direct your meditation. Go with your thoughts as they flow, rather than working against them. If a distracting thought pops up, allow it to be and it will go away on it’s own. Meditation is effortless and easy when you do this.
When you meditate in way that is enjoyable you can effortlessly meditate for as long as you want to.
