Focussing on my breathing isn’t enough to keep my mind from going in circles

“I started meditating about 3 weeks ago, after trying it for a handful of days every couple of years, with the intent to really stick with it this time.

Even after such a short time, I noticed that I am way less agitated.

This is a great motivation to keep going.

My challenge is: I find that focussing on my breath isn’t sufficient to keep my mind from going in circles, with random thoughts popping up all the time.

Now, I know the advice is to acknowledge the thoughts (a moment of mindfulness) and gently return your focus to your breathing.

I try that, but my mind is still racing!

Is there anything else I could try, instead?

I should mention that I meditate in the morning.

Please help me find something else to focus on, something stronger that holds my attention for just a little longer! :-)”

Allow your thoughts to flow.

Pay attention to them.

They are important.

As you have recently started meditating your mind has a backlog of thoughts that need your attention.

As you continue your meditation your mind will process all these thoughts and your mind will become calmer and calmer.

Try meditating twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

This will help your mind to process all your thoughts and be calmer.
