“Is getting emotional a normal part of meditation?
I followed a guided meditation and once I was told to relax and let go of anything bothering my being I instantly started thinking of everything that’s been negatively affecting me.
I imagined it all somehow just floating away.
Once the meditation was over, I had to take a little extra time to myself because I just felt a lot of hurt, sadness & anger.
Overall just upset and crying.
I’ve never experienced anything like this so any insight would be appreciated.”
Meditation frees your mind.
Emotions and thoughts are a normal part of meditation.
In normal every day life we’re often so busy that we put emotions and thoughts to one side whilst we’re busy doing whatever it is that needs doing.
These emotions and thoughts pile up.
When you meditated you gave your mind the time and space for those emotions and thoughts to all flow out at once.
When you next meditate you can meditate on why and how.
Why was this negative?
How can I learn from this?
How can I prevent this from happening in the future?
The reason your mind brings these to the front is that they are important and require your attention.
Meditating gives your mind the time and space needed to address and resolve these so that you can move forward positively.
